I personally use permethrin to control the different mites that have affected my chickens. My primary reason is there is no egg withdrawal period as there is with other products, it works and is more cost effective. Depending on the strength of the solution is the amount used per gallon of water. I spray weekly the entire coop, every crack and crevice. This a chart made by a friend for the different concentrations per gallon. The amounts highlighted in yellow worked best for me.

Elector PSP is also an effective treatment for chicken mites, but quite expensive, as it acts as both an adulticide and a larvicide, targeting the pests’ nervous systems. It is typically diluted in water and applied to the chickens and their environment to manage infestations safely. Elector PSP is a veterinarian-recommended treatment for poultry mites and lice. It is effective against various external parasites, including Northern fowl mites, red poultry mites, and chicken body lice. The active ingredient, spinosad, works by affecting the nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death within 1-2 days. Dilution: Mix 9 ml of Elector PSP in one gallon of water.

Application: Spray the solution on the chickens, ensuring to wet the feathers and skin, especially around the vents and crests.

Reapplication: It is generally effective with a single application, but reapplication may be necessary every 7 to 10 days if needed.

No Egg Withdrawal: Elector PSP has no egg withdrawal period, making it safe for use in laying hens.
